Emergency Car Starter
This Schumacher Emergency Car Starter is designed to start
a weak automotive or power sport 12 volt battery.
This Emergency Car Starter is intended for use on 4-, 6- and
8-cylindergas-poweredcarsandlighttrucks.Donotuseon6voltor
24 volt electrical systems or diesel-powered vehicles. This Emer-
gency Car Starter is designed to work if the vehicle’s starter clicks
or the engine turns over too slowly to start. This product is not
designed to start a vehicle with a heavily discharged battery or
for use on vehicle batteries that are shorted or sulfated; these
will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced. See a profes-
sional technician.
Other uses include:

Provides backup power for equipment such as cell phones,
PDAs, CD players, digital cameras, etc.

Provides power to USB devices.

ꢁ. The INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED and the LED on
the starter’s male plug should illuminate red. If these LEDs
do not light, turn the car ignition key to the Accessory (ACC)
position. If the LEDs still do not light, check for a faulty fuse
in the male plug or in the vehicle’s fuse panel. Replace with
the same size and amp rating.
ꢂ. Depress the CHARGE CAR BATTERY button to begin the
charging cycle. The CAR BATTERY CHARGING LED will il-
luminate red and the INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED
will turn off. If the radio, fan, interior lights or headlights come
on, TURN THEM OFF IMMEDIATELY.
4. Charge for at least ꢀ0 minutes, or until the green LED lights,
before trying to start the car. Attempt to start the car but if the
car only clicks or turns over slowly, continue to charge the car
until the CAR BATTERY CHARGING LED illuminates green
or a total charging time of ꢁ0 minutes has been reached. At
this time attempt a second car start.
5. When the car starts, press the CHARGE CAR BATTERY
switch to the OFF position (button up).
6. Disconnectthemaleplugfromthevehicle’sꢀꢁVDCaccessory
outlet.
7. Recharge the Emergency Car Starter as soon as possible.

RECHARGING THE EMERGENCY CAR STARTER
The EC-4000-USB comes uncharged. We recommend you charge
it immediately. Recharge after every use and every month if not
used. There are two ways to recharge:
A. Charging the EC-4000-USB’s internal battery with the AC
wall charger:
ꢀ. Plug the AC wall charger’s adaptor into the charger recep-
tacle on the back of the starter.
ꢁ. Plug the wall charger into a ꢀꢁ0V AC electrical wall outlet.
The INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED will illuminate
red.
3. Wait 12 hours when charging for the first time. Subsequent
charges will be complete when the INTERNAL BATTERY
CHARGING LED illuminates green. Note: The AC wall
chargerdoesNOTautomaticallyshutoff.Monitorthecharge
time and be sure to disconnect the rear charger jack when
finished recharging the EC-4000-USB.
B. Charging the Emergency Car Starter in the vehicle:
ꢀ. AfterthevehicleisrunningandtheCHARGECARBATTERY
switch is in the OFF position (button up), simply plug the
EC-4000-USB’sꢀꢁVDCmaleadaptorplugintothevehicle’s
ꢀꢁV DC accessory outlet. When the INTERNAL BATTERY
CHARGING LED glows, the unit is being recharged by
the vehicle. Do not leave the EC-4000-USB connected to
the vehicle’s ꢀꢁV DC accessory outlet when the vehicle’s
engineisNOTrunning;theEC-4000-USBmaydischargethe
vehicle’s battery.

FUSE:
The EC-4000-USB comes with a ꢀꢁA fast-blow fuse located in
the end of the male adaptor plug. Replace only with a fuse of the
same size and rating. To replace the fuse simply un-screw the
metal tip of the male plug.
ACCESSORY OUTLET OUTPUT: ꢀꢁV DC 5 Amp maximum.
USB OUTLET OUTPUT: 5V DC 500mA maximum.
STORAGE: WHEN NOT IN USE, STORE IN AN AREA
WHERE THE TEMPERATURE RANGE IS BETWEEN 0–40ºC
(ꢂꢁ–ꢀ04ºF).
THE MALEADAPTOR PLUGAND CABLE SHOULD BE STORED
INSIDE THE COMPARTMENT TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL
DAMAGE. DO NOT USE THE CHARGER IF THE CABLES OR
PLUGS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED.
IT IS NORMAL FOR STARTER TO BECOME WARM DURING
OPERATION AND CHARGING.

MUST BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY. CONTACTYOUR LOCAL

Schumacher Electric Corporation warrants this battery charger for 90 days from
date of purchase at retail against defective material or workmanship. If such should
occur, the unit will be repaired or replaced at the option of the manufacturer. It is
the obligation of the purchaser to forward the unit together with the original sales
receipt, transportation and/or mailing charges prepaid to the manufacturer or its
authorized representative.
