How HD RadioTM Technology Works
1. Mount the Main Module and Power Adaptor/Noise Sup-
perssor in the locations you have chosen to install them.
2. Attach the Cradle for the Control Module to the end
of the Goose Neck Mount as shown in Fig. 1.
3. Press the suction cup on the base of the Goose Neck
against the windshield.
Basically, digital HD Radio receivers work the same as a conventional radio. There’s a
signal on one end and a receiver on the other. But there are a few key differences.
1. Instead of sending out one analog signal, stations send out a bundled signal – both
analog and digital. Because it is digital, textual data such as traffic, stock info and
song titles can be sent out, as well.
2. HD Radio technology enables FM broadcasters to offer several new channels of
digital programming in addition to their main station. To discover all of the new FM
3. Inevitably, radio signals bounce off objects, causing what is called multi-path dis-
tortions. This is what causes the static in conventional radio receivers. Digital HD
Radio receivers are designed to sort through reflected signals, reducing static, hiss,
pops and fades.
4. Finally, the signals reach their destination. Both HD Radio broadcasts are free, with
no subscription fee. To hear the digital broadcast, all you need is a digital HD Radio

4. Move the lever on the suction base as shown in Fig. 2.
5. Place the Control Module in the cradle as shown in
Fig. 3, then adjust the Goose Neck so you can see the
front of the Control Module.
6. Insert the plug on the end of the Control Module’s cable into
the jack on the main module labeled Controller.
7. Insert the RCA plugs on one end of the supplied RCA cable
into the Line Out Jacks of the Main Module. Make sure you
insert the Red plug into the Right Channel and the White plug
into the Left Channel.
8. Insert the RCA plugs on the other end of the supplied RCA
cable into the Auxiliary IN Jacks of the vehicle’s FM stereo re-
ceiver. Make sure you insert the Red plug into the Right
Channel and the White plug into the Left Channel.
9. Insert the Vehicle’s antenna cable into the Main
Module’s Antenna IN jack.

Before You Install
10. Insert the Main Modules’s Antenna Cable into the
vehicle’s antenna jack.
11. Insert the Power Module’s DC power cable into
the Main Module’s DC IN jack.
Automotive audio equipment installations can be challanging at times, even to the
most experienced of installation technicians. If you are not confident working with
12 Volt DC vehicle wiring, removing and reinstalling interior panels, carpeting, dash-
boards or other components of your vehicle, please call our Toll-Free Help Line 1-

questions. If you have vehicle specific questions, contact the vehicle’s manufacturer,
or consider having the VRHDUA100 professionally installed.
Before You Install
To insure that the unit can be installed properly, temporarily layout the Cradle for the
Control Module, Goose Neck Mount with Suction Base, and all modules and cables
in the locations you have chosen to install them. Make sure the length of the cables
is sufficient. Before final installation of the unit, temporarily connect the wiring and
operate the unit to make sure the unit works properly.
12. Insert the 12V Adaptor into the vehicle’s power port or cigarette lighter socket.

• Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal before starting installation.
Consult the vehicle’s owner’s manual for proper instructions.
• The unit is designed for a 12 Volt DC negative ground operation system only.
Before installing the unit, make sure your vehicle is a 12 Volt DC negative ground
system.

• Be sure to connect the wires according to the wiring diagram. Incorrect connec-
tions may damage the unit, cause the unit to malfunction, or cause damage the
vehicle's electrical system.
• Make sure all the connections are completely correct before turning on your unit.
• Do not open the unit. Modifying the unit will void the warranty and may damage
the unit or cause the unit to malfunction or cause damage to the vehicle's electri-
cal system.

Some FM stereo receivers do not
have RCA type Auxiliary In Jacks on
the rear of the unit, but have a 3.5mm
input jack on the front panel.

Use only the parts included with this unit to ensure proper installation. The use of
unauthorized parts may cause damage to the vehicle or unit and void the warranty.
• If installation requires the drilling of holes or other modifications to the vehicle, con-
sult with your vehicle’s nearest dealership to avoid damaging your vehicle.
• Install the unit in a location where it shall not obstruct driver’s ability to safely oper-
ate the vehicle, and cannot injure any passengers if there is a sudden stop, like an
emergency stop.
