INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Thank you for purchasing the Musical Fidelity
X-P200 power amplifier.
Used properly and carefully, it should give you many years of
outstanding musical reproduction.
Aesthetically, the X-P200 power amplifier is a perfect match for the
X-Pre V3 pre-amplifier and X-RAY V3 CD player.
Together, they form one of the finest hi-fi systems available.
Dust regularly with a soft cloth or soft brush, but be careful when
using cleaning or polishing agents - they may harm the surface finish.
If you have any questions about your audio system,
please consult your dealer who is there to help and advise.

OPERATION
FACILITIES (see page 6)
INTRODUCTION
If in doubt about bi-amplification, please
contact your dealer for advice.
Your X-P200 can be connected either as a
conventional stereo amplifier, or
alternatively in “bridge” mode as a mono
amplifier with higher output power - see
page 4 and 5 for connection details.
BEFORE SWITCHING ON . . . .
Plug the accessory IEC mains lead into the
rear panel socket, then the other end into a
wall outlet.
It is intended for use with a pre-amplifier
or similar audio level source with a volume
control. We highly recommend the
matching X-Pre preamplifier also available
from Musical Fidelity.
Turn the volume control on your pre-
amplifier to minimum.

Two stereo pairs of RCA audio input
sockets marked “A” and “B” on the rear
panel allow a choice between either of
these input sources. Simultaneous mixed A
and B operation is not possible.
OPERATION
Press the POWER button on the X-P200
amplifier - the blue power LED on the front
panel will light indicating that the unit is
ready for use. However, for about six
seconds no sound will be heard from your
speakers, and the red mute LED will be lit,
confirming initial mute action.
Whichever input is chosen, a fixed “line
level” audio output from the selected
source is available from the adjacent
OUTPUT RCA sockets for onward
connection to another amplifier. This is to
allow for “bi-amplification” (see below).
INPUT
MODE
Press the INPUT selector button on the front
panel to switch between A and B input as
required. A corresponding blue LED above
the button will light to confirm your
selection.

BI-AMPLIFICATION
The X-P200’s OUTPUT sockets allow “bi-
amplification” of a speaker system using
suitable external amplifiers and crossover
networks. This enables the speaker drive
units to be powered separately, giving
noticeable improvement in clarity, imaging
and bass weight.
Now adjust the volume control on your pre-
amplifier to obtain the preferred sound level.

If “bridge” loudspeaker operation is required,
press the MODE button on the front panel to
switch over to this function. A
corresponding blue LED above the button
will light to indicate which system is in use.
Press the MODE button again to revert to
normal stereo.
In this arrangement, typically one X-P200
is used to drive the “tweeter” (high
frequencies), and another to drive the
“woofer” (low frequencies) of each
loudspeaker enclosure. Thus, two X-P200s
would be needed for a stereo pair, or four
in bridge mode.
Please note that if STEREO mode is
accidently selected with the speakers wired
for “bridge” operation, sound will be
distorted, and lack bass. Similarly, if
switched to BRIDGE mode with speakers
wired for stereo operation, sound quality will

CONNECTIONS
INPUT CONNECTIONS
All input, output and power
connections should be made with the
mains power switched OFF.
Using good quality co-axial audio leads,
connect the left and right outputs from
your pre-amplifier or other controlled
source to either A or B RCA inputs.
IEC mains power inlet
OUTPUT
These RCA sockets have “line level”
audio “loop” output routed from either A
or B input by the selector switch on the
front panel.
They are for onward connection to
another amplifier if required.
(See page 6 under BI-AMPLIFICATION).
LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTIONS
Bridge mode :
The X-P200 is a stereo amplifier, but can
Conventional stereo use :
Important :
instead be used in “bridge” mode to obtain a
single (mono) output with higher power.
* The load impedance must not be less
than 4 ohms.
Connect each of your loudspeakers to the
pair of terminals on the back panel marked
LEFT and RIGHT SPEAKER OUTPUT.
The wiring must be “in phase”, namely, the
red (+) and black (-) terminals must be
connected to the left and right speakers the
same way round.
Connect a single (mono) loudspeaker
between LEFT and RIGHT red (+)
terminals only
However, do not attempt both speaker
connection methods at the same time.
* Do not make any earth connection to
the speaker terminals.
Note that in this mode, the right-hand
channel red terminal becomes negative (-)
for phasing purposes. This is important for
maintaining correct phase with any other
amplifier being used in your audio system.
